Question: I’ve heard that nasal packing after rhinoplasty surgery is very uncomfortable. Is this always required? How long is it left in?
Answer: In our practice, nasal packing is never performed at the end of the surgery. A small elastic stent may be left in place if an extensive septoplasty was done. If a straightforward rhinoplasty has been performed, a small folded piece of cotton may be left in overnight and the patient can easily remove that the next morning. Patients find this to be far more comfortable and it is also significantly more sanitary.
