Question
How are facial implants used to treat the signs of aging?
Answer
This is an excellent question as it brings up one of the fundamental changes that happen with time. As we age, not only does our skin become more lax, but we lose significant volume. To just tighten the skin and not address volume discrepancies can create a very taut, unnatural look. Restoring facial volume is an important part of creating a youthful appearance. Implants can be placed to fill in areas of volume loss such as hollows in the cheek. In addition, for those patients who are not blessed with a strong facial framework over which the skin is gracefully draped, implants can add definition and improve the quality of a re-draping procedure such as facelift as it provides a more sculpted framework over which the soft tissue is draped. So, your question is very appropriate and volume addition or restoration is a very important part of rejuvenation surgery.
