Patient demonstrates hyperactivity of the corrugator muscles, which are muscles that cause one to have a scowl or more stern appearance. The brows are pulled medially and downward. There is also action of the corrugator, supracilia muscle (the muscle that closes the eye) that tends to give one a very stern countenance. The use of Botox relaxes these muscles and gives a much more open, pleasant and inviting countenance.
