Patient demonstrates hyperactivity of the corrugator muscles, which are muscles that cause one to have a scowl or more stern appearance. The brows are pulled medially and downward. There is also action of the corrugator, supracilia muscle (the muscle that closes the eye) that tends to give one a very stern countenance. The use of Botox relaxes these muscles and gives a much more open, pleasant and inviting countenance.
Botox Before and After Photos
Patient demonstrates hyperactivity of the corrugator muscle and the nasalis muscles (which are the muscles that cause the nose to wrinkle) along with the procerus muscle which creates a deep crease at the root of the nose. Similarly Botox relaxes these muscles and gives a more relaxed countenance even when the patient vigorously attempts to scowl.
